The Thermo Nicolet iS50 Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer is equipped to measure transmission, specular and diffuse reflection, diffuse transmission, and attenuated total reflection (ATR) in the mid-IR. Ranges vary for different accessories within 400 cm-1 to 7800 cm-1. It also includes an FT-Raman measurement module with a 500 mW 1064 nm excitation source and an InGaAs detector.

Its accessories include:

  • FT-Raman module for measurement of bulk, powder, and liquid samples, equiped with XYZ sampling stage; USB video camera; 9 and 48 well sampling tray; microscope slide holder; and vial holders. It uses a 1064 nm laser for excitation, avoiding the presence of fluorescence on the Raman spectra for most samples.
  • Built-in diamond ATR for fast analysis of virtually any sample (minimal setup time)
  • Transmission for solid samples
  • Pellet press for making KBr pellets to measure powder samples in transmission mode
  • Diffuse reflectance (DRIFTS) accessory for powder and small solid samples
  • Multi-bounce specular reflection accessory (fixed angle of 70 degrees)
  • Single reflection variable angle specular reflectance accessory (solid samples)
  • Multibounce ATR attachment for dilute and low absorption solid and liquid specimens. Ideal sample size for solids is between 40 mm x 5 mm to 140 mm x 200 mm and for liquids a volume between 0.1 ml and 0.5 ml.
  • IntegratIR® integrating sphere attachment can be used to measure diffuse reflectance or transmission of light-scattering and highly absorbing solid samples
