Magnetization
The Physical Properties Measurement core maintains two sets of instruments capable of measuring the magnetization in materials. The Quantum Design MPMS3 SQUID magnetometers are designed to measure the longitudinal response to applied magnetic fields for powders, liquids, films and single crystal samples. These measurements can span a temperature range of 1.8K < T < 1000K and a field range -70000 Oe < H < 70000 Oe. The Quantum Design PPMS Dynacool B can measure magnetic torque in thin film and single crystal samples, which is sensitive to the component of the magnetic response perpendicular to the applied field. These measurements can be performed in temperatures 1.8K < T < 400K, fields -90000 Oe < H < 90000 Oe. Both instruments are capable of rotating samples relative to the applied field direction over a 360° angular range.
