MatSe named one of world's top rising programs

The department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Grainger College of Engineering is one of the top 10 rising institutions according to rankings released by “Nature Index.”

MatSE buildingThe Nature Index Materials Science 2021 supplement was released Wednesday. It ranks the department number nine on a list that includes institutions from across the world. MatSE is the second highest ranked institution in the United States.

The rankings were determined by a change in article shares in “Nature Index ''between 2019 and 2020. MatSE’s article share increased from 65.88 in 2019 to 81.74 in 2020.  

In addition to being named one of the world’s top rising institutions, the department was also one of the top 20 leading institutions in the world. This ranking is based on 2020 article share which placed MatSE 19th overall with only two other U.S. universities ahead.

This ranking comes thanks to the hard work and excellence of MatSE researchers and their commitment to interdisciplinary activities and exploring novel ideas.
