Physical Properties Measurement

MRL’s Physical Property Measurement suite provides instrumentation for the characterization of electronic, thermal, and magnetic properties of a variety of material systems at cryogenic and high temperatures over a range of applied magnetic fields. Powder, thin film, and single crystals can all be characterized using the Quantum Design MPMS3 SQUID and PPMS systems we have available. Both are equipped with a number of different accessories to tailor your experiment.

Techniques

Electrical transport

The two Quantum Design PPMS Dynacool instruments are capable of measuring electrical resistivity in longitudinal, transverse (Hall) and van der Pauw configurations.

Thermal Transport

Thermoelectric materials can be rapidly characterized using the Thermal Transport Option of the Quantum Design PPMS Dynacool.

Heat Capacity

High-precision microcalorimetry experiments can be performed using the Heat Capacity option of the Quantum Design PPMS Dyancool.

Magnetization

The Physical Properties Measurement core maintains two instruments capable of measuring the magnetization in materials.
