Shailesh Joshi
Biography
Dr. Shailesh N. Joshi is a Research Affiliate at the Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Senior Research Manager at the Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA). His research centers on advanced semiconductor and power-electronics packaging — spanning thermal management, bonding, and reliability — with emerging thrusts in optoelectronic applications in power electronics and quantum-sensor integration. At Illinois, he collaborates with MRL faculty on photonic, light-based fabrication of nanostructured and porous materials for high-heat-flux electronics cooling and next-generation device packaging, bridging fundamental materials research with applied power electronics for electrified and future mobility. Dr. Joshi holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University, an M.S. from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a B.E. from the University of Pune. He has authored or co-authored more than 80+ peer-reviewed publications and holds over 195 issued U.S. patents, with research recognized through multiple international best-paper awards and a finalist selection for the R&D 100 Award. He actively serves the research community as a reviewer for U.S. Department of Energy programs and archival journals and as a leader of multi-university research consortia.
