LSF Safety

All MRL Central Facilities are committed to safety, and all LSF users are required to undergo training prior to use of the facility's instruments.

The MRL Central Facilities are committed to the safety of our staff and all our research users. Please find relevant safety resources below.

The MRL Laser Facility provides safety training to all users on an individual basis. The training includes the UIUC general laser safety guide, and adheres to the ANSI Z136.1-1993 national laser safety standard.

Mandatory LSF Safety Training

The University of Illinois Division of Research Safety (DRS) provides online safety training to the campus community.

To have access to the LSF, you NEED to carefully read the Instructions for the Safe Use of Lasers in the LSF and the UIUC Radiation Safety Section Laser Safety Manual! Before training on the instruments you may be briefly quizzed about it.

You ALSO NEED to provide copies of the following documents to Julio Soares, (217) 265-6824, 366 MRL:

• Completion certificate for the DRS General Lab Safety training
• Completion certificate for the DRS Laser Safety training
• A signed copy of Instructions for the Safe Use of Lasers in the LSF (PDF)
